Paper presentation: Philosophical Counceling in the Emergency Medicine
Abstract: This paper is a subjective approach and has as stand my individual experience in the quality as ambulance volunteer in Bucharest, capital of Romania, under motto: always and all, ready for help. The paper has three parts: the introduction, the presentation of theme and the conclusions and it is based of the discover method from The Cave`s Myth of Plato that is taught in Jesuit schools. The introduction will define the general aspect, the presentation theme will be the casuistic approach and the conclusions will be of subjective and ethical nature. The casuistic approach has as point of begining the algorithm PEACE (problem, emotion, analysis, contemplation and equilibrium), developed of Lou Marinoff. There is a study that tries to show the necesity of philosophical counceling and it is addressed to philosophical councelors, to the volunteers and medical cadres, to the relations of those with the victims, the belongers and also with the employees hospitals where the victims are arriving. The general problem is related to utilitarian ethics of the disaster medicine, in the sense that they are saved only the humans that have the best chances of survival. In private mode, I shall refere to a story about a girl of sixteen years old, very beautiful, injured of a truch on the pavement that an ambulance crew did not succeded to save – that is the problem of study. The emotion is developed: the crew has tears in the eyes because the teenage girl enteres in clinical death. The analysis begins with the latin syntagma memento mori, and of the philosophical point, it is appeled to the spiritual meditation of short life, wrote by the philosopher emperor Marcus Aurelius, but also to the Biblical Ecclesiastes. The contemplation is referred to a meditation about the mode how we live this short life and as Epictetus philosopher said, the only happiness is not to concern of what surpassed our will of simple mortals, but to live the given moment of life, with good snd bad. The equilibrium is based of life experience of Wittgeinstein philosopher that was himself a volunteer in the medical system of Great Britain and also a war volunteer and tried to be the best version of himself in whatever conditions of life. The conclusions are subjective, in the sense that my experience in the quality as volunteer in emergency medicine and as pilosophical councelor shows that traumas that appear at the medical cadres and volunteers that activated in emergency medicine need existentialist counceling not to reach to problems that require psyhological counceling and psyhiatric treatment. The anxiety and the restlessness that appear in the dramatical cases of life and death of the emergency medicine require etical caller, but also the spiritual and wisdom experience of a philosophical councelor to help them to be ready at anytime to save a life, but also to overpass from motional point of view the sitution they cannot do it.
